Our Fall 2024 writers-in-residence will be in Iowa City from approximately September 1 through November 17, 2024.

  • Our Fall Residency Reading Series in person at Shambaugh House:

Details on dates and times for 2024 TBD. Readings take place in Shambaugh House (430 N. Clinton St., Iowa City) and are streamed live on our Facebook page.

  • Our Friday Panel Series online or in person:

Noon CT on Fridays, September 6 through November 8. Most meetings are livestreamed at bit.ly/fallresicpl or in person at the Iowa City Public Library (123 S. Linn St., Iowa City), Meeting Room A.

  • Our Sunday Reading Series in person at Prairie Lights Books:

4 PM CT on most Sundays, September 8 through November 10. Readings take place in Prairie Lights Books (15 S Dubuque St., Iowa City).

The IWP and UI MFA writing programs take over the 2nd floor of Prairie Lights – grab a glass of wine or a fancy soda and settle in for an hour of highlights from three of the writers’ best works.

  • In addition to becoming the Berlin LitFest’s first curator-in-residence, Helon Habila has also just received Kaduna Books and Art Festival’s KabaFest Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his "exceptional writing and significant contributions to the development of literature globally."

  • Congratulations to Enah Johnscott, whose film Half Heaven won three awards at the Cameroon International Film Festival—best film, best director, and best cinematographer.

  • We regret the passing, on April 11, 2024, of the distinguished Romanian author and critic Dan Cristea, who served as the editor in chief of the Luceafărul de Dimineață cultural monthly. In addition to being an alum of the 1985 Fall Residency, Cristea received his PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Iowa.

  • Our congratulations to 1986 Fall Residency writer Kwame Dawes, who has been named the new poet laureate of Jamaica.

  • Congratulations to our colleagues Jennifer Croft and Aron Aji, who are among those serving as judges for the National Book Awards this year, in their case in the category of translated literature.
