Peter Nazareth (Uganda/USA, IWP '73), a novelist and literary critic of Goan and Malaysian descent, is Professor of English at the University of Iowa, and, since 1977, Senior Program Advisor to the International Writing Program. His first novel, In a Brown Mantle, brought him to United States through a Yale Fellowship. Later works include the novel The General Is Up,  and scholarly publications Critical Essays on Ngugi wa Thiong'o (2000) and Pivoting on the Point of Return: Modern Goan Literature (2010).

Dilman DILA (fiction writer, filmmaker; Uganda) is the author of three volumes, The Flying Man of Stone, A Killing in the Sun and Cranes Crest at Sunset, shortlisted for the 2016 Gerald Kraak Award and the 2013 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. His The Felistas Fable was the Film of the Year at the 2014 Uganda Film Festival; What Happened in Room 13 has had six million views on YouTube; he regularly produces science fiction films for his YouTube channel.

Oscar RANZO (fiction writer; Uganda) is the author of the novel Cross-Pollination (2012) and the children’s books The Little Maid (2012), The Wise Milkboy (2013) and The Jewels of Amuria (2013). He is the coordinator of the Child Sacrifice Prevention Program, which is based on his book Saving Little Viola, and the founder, in 2012, of the Oasis Book Project, which aims to increase the profile of Ugandan literature. Ayeta Anne WANGUSA (fiction writer, editor, Uganda; born 1971, Kampala) had her first novel, Memoirs of a Mother (Femrite, 1998), published this year to great acclaim in Ugandan literary circles. She is an active member of the Uganda Writers Association and the Uganda Women Writers Association, and currently works as an editor for The New Vision Newspaper, Uganda's leading daily newspaper, where she specializes in writing book reviews and features. Ms. Wangusa was educated at Makerere University, where she received her M.A.

Charles MULEKWA is very involved in Ugandan theater. A founding member and co-director of the drama group Teamline, he is a committee member of the Kampala Amateur Dramatic Society, and an executive member of the National Theater Guild. His works include A Time of Fire (1999), Between You and Me, and The Woman in Me. He is participating courtesy of the U.S. Department of State.
