Dan COMAN (fiction writer, poet; Romania) has published four books of poems and three novels. Winner of the 2004 Mihai Eminescu Award for the poetry collection anul cârtiței galbene [The Year of the Yellow Mole], Coman has also received the 2004 Romanian Writers Union Prize, the 2011 Crystal Vilenica Prize, and Radio Romania’s Cultural Awards for 2011 and 2017. His work has been anthologized, and translated into seven languages, English included. His participation was made possible by the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest.
Andra ROTARU (poet, journalist; Romania) is a cultural journalist and literary activist. Her 2005 debut collection Într-un pat sub cearșaful alb [In a Bed Under the White Sheets] garnered four national awards; it was followed by the poetry volumes Ținuturile sudului [Southern Lands] (2010) and Lemur (2013), the latter turned into a collaborative dance/video performance presented in the U.S. and across Europe. Her work has been widely translated and anthologized.
On 10/15/2020, the Al Quds/Jerusalem-based Palestinian poet Najwan DARWISH (IWP ‘10) and his translator will be launching Najwan’s new English-language collection, Embrace. (Registration for the Zoom event and a small fee required.)
Nine contemporary American stories were rendered into Russian by a collective of young Kazakhstani translators, working with editor Yuriy SEREBRIANSKY (IWP ’17) at the Translation Laboratory, hosted by American Space & Makerspace Almaty.
