Between the Lines (BTL) invites high-school students of differing nationalities, ages 16 to 19, to the University of Iowa campus for a unique summer program where participants develop their creative writing skills while exploring other cultures. Since 2008, BTL has brought together young writers from the U.S., Russia, and over ten Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa. BTL is run by the International Writing Program and sponsored through grant funds provided by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US State Department.
