From the bustling streets of Singapore to the tranquil countryside of Spain, our surroundings are constantly in motion. How does one’s environment and upbringing influence or challenge writers? These essays explore the relationship between a writer’s physical environment and the work they produce.

The IWP Friday Panel Discussion series provides an opportunity for the residents of Iowa City to meet and converse with writers from around the world who are the Fall 2025 Writers in Residence at the University of Iowa International Writing Program.
