currently lives in Lugano, Switzerland, where he is a professor of literature and composition at Franklin College. Matthews received a bachelor's degree from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and completed a doctoral dissertation on Ezra Pound at the University of Durham, UK. His poetry has been published in various journals, including The American Scholar , Crazyhorse, Quarto, and The Dublin Review . He is the author of two collections of poetry, A New Life (2000), published by Switzerland's Trapdoor Press, and Eyelevel: Fifty Histories (2003), published by CavanKerry Press (US).
