Ikram Basra
Ikram Basra is currently working as a Literary Specialist at the International Writing Program. He graduated from the University of Iowa’s Playwrights’ Workshop in 2021. From 2022 to 2023, he taught playwriting and screenwriting as a visiting professor in the English Department at the University of Iowa. Ikram has witnessed the national life of Pakistan as a journalist, television producer, lyricist, and poet. His poems have been widely published in Pakistan and India and broadcast on radio and television. As a lyricist, he has written for both Bollywood and Pakistani television. In Pakistan, he also worked as a news producer and created programming viewed across the country. Most recently, he won first place for immigration writing in the Association for Alternative News Media, 2021, in the United States. Before coming to Iowa, he studied screenwriting at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai and earned an MS in Mass Communications from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. His previous plays include The Job, Bishan Singh, We Were All Sunflowers, Familiar Laughter, and A Village in South Asia.
